5 Ways Travel Will Ruin Your Life

“I AM NOT THE SAME HAVING SEEN THE MOON SHINE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD.”

Mary Anne Radmacher

ruin

Buy the plane ticket they said. Never return they said. Get that killer tan they said. So I went, and now look! Everything I thought was normal is no more, everything I thought was enough isn’t cutting it and everything I thought I wanted is now my worst nightmare. Travel changed me in ways I could never have foreseen and I’m warning you now, it will change your life.

No money

Remember slaving away for 8+ hours per day in an office or behind that old bar? Oh, you worked over 270 days last year and survived on plain rice most nights to save up your hard earned cash each month too right? You were going to spend all those years hard work on a pile of bricks but instead you spent it all on a one way ticket to paradise, life changing adventures, cocktails out of coconuts on the beach and a few stamps in your battered passport? Now your bank balance says 0 and you’re left with something money could NEVER buy… The best experience of your life! Great investment babe.

No ambition

Remember that time you wanted nothing more than being well respected among a group of suitwearing nutters, to be in charge of a few numbers on spreadsheets and to waste your life sitting at a desk so you could afford the odd holiday here and there? Oh, a career, I think that’s what they call them these days. I used to think a sports car and large paycheck made a good life. WRONG. Now your serving a bunch of travelers cheap fruity cocktails from a beach shack somewhere beautiful, meeting hundreds of like minded adventurers every week and wearing nothing but a bikini and bare feet to work. Thinking of that office now? NOPE.

1000 Goodbyes

Goodbye 9-5 job. Goodbye annoying neighbours. Goodbye paying bills. Goodbye rainy weather. Goodbye Monday feeling. Goodbye repetition. Goodbye normality! Okay, have you noticed my sarcasm yet? Of course travel is the best choice you can make in life but this is one downfall of great adventures. You have to say goodbye ALL the time. I know saying goodbye to my family when I leave next month will be super hard but I’m homesick for the places I’ve never been.

No relationship

It’s pretty hard to commit to one person when you meet a thousand beautiful souls on the road. You change all the time, with the adventures you embark on and the people you are inspired by. It’s tough, love, I prefer going solo.

What I learnt travelling solo to the most romantic cities in the world

How travel ruined my relationship

What is life?!

Surely this can’t be it? Do we all just work ourselves to death to pay bills and die?! I will not surrender to what society deem normal. I will create the life of a dreamer. Upon returning from an adventure you will be prone to the dreaded… TRAVELER DEPRESSION! DUH, Duh, duuuhhh! Don’t submit to it, get back on the road babe and chase that sun!

  2. Amazing photos and funny post like always:) All these points were true but especially that goodbyes part. When you travel you get to meet so many amazing people but then again you have to say goodbye to them and maybe never see them again… I hope safe travels for you! 🙂

    1. Awh, Viivi!! Your comment made me SO happy 🙂 I always aim to make you lot smile and I’m so glad you liked the post. Saying goodbyes whilst away is really hard too, even when you’ve only known those people for a week they feel like family! Happy travels x

    1. Wow, go you! You will get through it in no time and it will be so worth it on the other side. I should definitely have included Uni on the list 🙂

  4. Hilarious but so relatable. I’m the broke girl who always finds a way out of this country. Cheers!
