Where have I been? – 6 months post travel

Its been 4 and a half months/20 weeks/137 days or if you wanna make me feel really bad – 3,285 hours since I last posted on The Petite Passenger.

I’ve also crosseed the milestone of being back at home in England for 6 months – post an amazing year long backpacking adventure to 12 countries around Asia. Let’s just say it’s been a difficult adjustment for me and I guess that’s a big reason why you haven’t heard from me in a while.

I try to live by the wise words that my mum often reminds me of;

‘don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened’.

I’ve had my fair share of adventures since I landed back in snowy London at the beginning of the year. I embarked on a road-trip around Iceland, I ziplined over lakes in the mountains of North Wales, I wandered through the winding streets of Brighton and last month I spent 8 glorious days basking in the Greecian sun. (You can catch up with all my trips on Instagram.)

The travels are most certainly not over but I have been slapped in the face with a massive dose of… life.

I have a great job, I’ve made new friends and caught up with old ones, I bought a car, I do weekly grocery shopping, I wear smart clothes and attend meetings (who even am I?) but the BIGGEST change of them all is that I’ve fallen in love … with a real life man!  You might have seen him appear in a few of my Instagram posts recently, and before you ask – yes, he loves travelling too. He’s also a photographer so expect the adventure snaps to get HOT!

Sharing this part of my life with someone, my passion and purpose to see the world, has never seemed essential but has kind of been a dream of mine for a long time and I hope that after 6 months of letting him be a part of it, he sticks around for many more adventures.

I have days where I see people’s greed, indulging in un-necessary purchases, complaining about minor things or just when I attend meetings with top business executives and all they care about is money. Perhaps they haven’t experienced the poverty of India, honesty of the Thai locals and smiles of Filipino children who are happy to play with a stick and piece of rubbish.

I’ve learned to appreciate every small thing in my life and the thought of owning pocessions makes me scared. People’s greed makes me angry – I want to shake them and show them how lucky they are but I breathe and stay grateful that I am fortunate enough to have seen the world that they haven’t.

In 2 months, I will be boarding another plane, to explore the foreign lands of Morocco in North Africa. I wont be alone and I’m not sure if I ever will be again – which is both incredibly exciting and a little scary.

Stay tuned for some VERY exciting plans and a whole new chapter of The Petite Passenger.

Keep up with the daily adventures on Instagram!
